“Du haut des cimes”, by Benoit Delaval

Galerie-ateliers L’Alcôve presents the exhibition “Du haut des cimes” by the artist Benoit Delaval

THE EXHIBITION

 Graphic designer & screen printer

Benoit Delaval has always been physically close to the mountains. Now he wanted to bring it to life in a more sensitive and singular way.

This work began when he rediscovered the stereoscopic views of the peaks of the Alps taken by his grandfather between 1920 and 1927.

To share them with as many people as possible, he transformed them into 3D views. All you have to do is look at them through the red and blue glasses to fully enter the image. This is how photographs from the 1920s come back to life.

The series of risographs (a Japanese printing technique) show abstract and colourful landscapes. It’s up to you to find your own mountain. Sometimes gentle, sometimes sharp, this series is called “Arêtes”.

His graphic work now explores the technique of silkscreen printing. He invites everyone to experience the very special moment of dawn and dusk at altitude.

The exhibition “Du haut des cimes” exhibition will run from Wednesday 10 April to Saturday 26 April.

The art opening will take place on Thursday 11 April 2024 from 6pm at the Galerie-ateliers L’Alcôve, 15 rue René-Leynaud, 69001 Lyon.

The artist

A graduate of the fine arts school in Chalon-sur-Saône, Benoit Delaval worked as a graphic designer in an agency for 11 years before setting up his own business in 2020.
He then set up his office at l’Alcove.
Working with artists gave him the desire to produce visuals that were less ‘technical’ and more ‘artistic’.

His universe and artistic references

Passionate about colour, he creates visuals using his skills as a graphic designer and his initial training at art school. He likes to play with shapes to create enigmatic images that let the viewer’s imagination run wild.

His favourite mediums are semi-automatic printing techniques such as risography, and traditional techniques such as screen printing. This enables her to create almost unique visuals while still having series.
Techniques that allow infinite creativity…
